Welcome to 2008, although definitely already well under way and in absolute full swing, this is the first Road Travel newsletter for the year, so again - welcome :-) Here it has been a busy season indeed, with no rest for the exceptional! Now that we are well into the New Year, with most the heavy festivities (for there's still lots of festivals on the go in South Africa!) history, there are still plenty of great reasons to celebrate. If there's no specific special occasion, simply indulge in the joys of summer and celebrate life in general :-)

Just around the corner is Valentine's day ... Mmmmm ... Why not make this Valentine a day to remember for years to come. Forget about the chocolates and roses and surprise her or him with a romantic break in the Cape Winelands, cruising the lakes in the Garden Route, diving on the KwaZulu Natal coast, hiking the Drakensberg, enjoying a safari in Swaziland or Kruger National Park, lazing around for a few days on a beautiful Mozambique island, admiring the breath taking Victoria Falls or experience a whirl wind shopping spree in Gauteng. The options are really endless - be original!

As  a lot of you have no doubt heard, South Africa has been experiencing what is interestingly referred to as "load shedding". Our power supply has been a little low of late, and a lot of companies have been through a lot of candle lit days. Luckily our offices have a back up generator, so we can advise our valued clients that "another power cut" will not affect us, and therefore not them. It's business as usual, although we have decided to not use the air conditioner unless absolutely necessary, we make use of natural light during the day and basically just use our common sense to preserve energy wherever possible.  Doing our little bit to make a difference ;-)

Do you know about the upcoming Total Lunar Eclipse? We are offering a special to view the last Total Lunar Eclipse visible in South Africa for many years. This will happen on the 21 February 2008!

Over the last few months we have seen a major increase in requests for island holidays and bush & beach breaks. We found that a lot of the so called "island specialists" send one automatically generated quote and not one supplier we contacted could do a tailor-made request. So we went and negotiated with some of the lodges and other suppliers in Seychelles, Mauritius, Zanzibar, Mozambique and Madagascar and can now offer this great new service.

There's been some excellent new additions to the South African hotels, lodges and guesthouses. One such property I personally would like to mention is the new boutique hotel at De Kelders, with stunning views over Walker Bay. We are happy to offer an amazing Summer Special with De Kelders, book two nights at the Lodge and you get the third night free! They will even throw in a free lunch on the terrace on your final day to see you off in style.

We could go on and on about what's new, what's not, what's in and what's hot - but it's back to the grindstone for me ;-) So until we hear from you again, we wish you a fabulous time and look forward to making dreams come true!

Kindest Regards
The Road Travel Team
