More good news! South Africa holds her own when it comes to world travel. The Saxon in Johannesburg is regarded as the world's best boutique hotel and our country also boasts the world's leading sustainable tourism project. These were only two of the awards that were presented to South African tourism gems at the World Travel Awards ceremony which took place in Turks & Caicos in the Caribbean. The awards are considered the "Oscars" of the travel industry, with travel leaders and professionals voting for the stars of tourism.

This is the most prestigious awards ceremony for the industry, and South Africa is one of more than 140 countries that participate. South Africa brought home 12 of the 16 awards available for the African continent! Cape Town was voted the best city to visit on the continent, with the Mount Nelson being the leading hotel in Africa. South African Airways is considered the best African airline and Sun City and Emperor's Palace won African awards for leading resorts and casinos.

South Africa's emphasis on ecotourism and conservation keeps us at the forefront of the world market in these areas. The World's Leading Safari and Game Reserve is Shamwari in the Eastern Cape, and Bushman Sands, in the same province, is the World's Leading Sustainable Tourism Project. We feature all these properties on our website.

In the Masai Mara excitement is definitely building up as the past few days have seen several river crossings by the zebra population who usually come ahead of the wildebeest. This is an indication that the  Migration will enter the Mara plains a little earlier than anticipated. The incredible wildebeest migration only happens in East Africa and is one of the most impressive displays of wildlife anywhere in the world. It is estimated that over two million animals migrate in a year round pattern within Tanzania and Kenya, following the rain and greener pastures.
