The Paris based Relais & Chateaux chain demands the highest standards from its members. Establishments that are part of the association are situated in quiet places of exceptional character. The overall criterion for membership and acceptance is quality, expressed in the "Five C's", namely: Character, Courtesy, Calm, Charm and Cuisine. The appointment of Cybele Forest Lodge in 1983 as the first Southern African establishment to achieve membership is a significant acknowledgement of standards achieved and consistently maintained through high levels of service, the staff, and the preoccupation with the small things that make this lodge special.
